About Me — JP Stonestreet
Embracing The Unconventional Life
It was October 2008. I had just inked a deal to sell my Denver-based startup dotcom to a competitor in Silicon Valley for 7-figures.
Two weeks later, the economy crashed, but that didn't affect me. The ink was already dry and I had the first of 6 annual payments from the leveraged buyout.
It was time to look for a new car, cuz that's what you do when you sell a dotcom, right?
The Dotcom Days
The company was called QuoteCatcher.com, and we sold air. At least, that's what it felt like.
I had a business partner who did sales and marketing. I built the software systems and managed the business operations.
We actually generated online sales leads for things like web design, point-of-sale systems, group health insurance, and 30+ other categories. Then we sold those leads to companies looking for new clients.
It was a pass-through system. Our role was to drive traffic to our website, collect contact information, and pass that along to vendors.
