About Me — Karen Hill Anton
Well, since you asked …
The photo tells the story: I’m a native New Yorker, wearing an outfit of fabric made in Ghana, which I bought in Vienna, brought home to Japan where I had it created, and here I am wearing it while enjoying a meal with my husband during a visit to Cape Town, South Africa.
Hello everyone, and thank you for your interest to read my “About Me”.
I’ll begin by saying I’m an American, married to an American, have four adult children and 11 grandchildren. I’ve made my home in the province of rural Shizuoka, Japan, since 1975.
Years ago when people were curious to know my story, I’d tell them, “read the book” — though no book had been written.
Now, I can say “read the book” — as my memoir has been written and published.
The View From Breast Pocket Mountain tells my whole story, and it’s as complete a recounting of my life as there can be.
It has won three literary awards, including Grand Prize Winner of the 2022 Memoir Prize for Books. I invite you to read it, with the caveat that the most common response from readers is “I couldn’t put it down!”
