About Me — Karen Madej
I’ve often wondered why I don’t think too deeply about who I am.
On different days, I’ve considered myself in alternative lights. I might be a chameleon, a butterfly, or a bleeding heart liberal. I adore pointing out what’s wrong with how we live and share like-minded people’s and my views and solutions.
I see the poor and vulnerable treated like throwaway people and ecosystems that need restoring to their former glory. I can’t walk past a homeless person without taking their order for a drink and something to eat.
One day, twelve years ago, I woke up and knew I wanted to work fewer hours so I could focus on my passion. Netflix. No, I jest. Netflix didn’t even launch in the Czech Republic until 2015! Writing.
I blogged my way through the last quarter of 2009 in Cape Verde. I’m still working on the book. The first chapter is Sarah.
After my final failed long-term relationship in 2010, I left my boyfriend chasing a local Mindelo woman, and returned to the UK to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. I chose to get qualified as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in Prague.
