About Me — Kathleen Curtin Do

I tried to find a photo from the past four years without a child in it, but it proved to be almost impossible. I am a stay-at-home mom who homeschools my daughter (age 5) and my son (age 3). I was homeschooled myself from grade 4 through graduation and have been delighted to see how homeschooling has become far more diverse since it was in the 90s when I was a student. I love learning new things alongside my kids and coming up with creative learning experiences.

Professor

Teaching is also my favorite part of my professional life. I have a PhD in English from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and spent the past ten years teaching at a small liberal arts college in Chicago. I loved how the small college environment gave me latitude to teach a wide variety of courses. Under my purview fell British literature from Beowulf to Gulliver’s Travels, freshman composition and literature, intro to linguistics, and world literature from Gilgamesh to Midnight’s Children.

After a decade of intensive classroom teaching, I quit my job last July and moved to Long Beach, CA, where my husband took a job as a professor. I now teach part time online. As much as I love in-person teaching, I am thankful that I can teach while being home…
