About Me — Kelsey
Intro: Artistic Professional in search of what’s next.
Is there a deeper purpose for me? Is there something else I’m meant to do? It’s said that every artist has two deaths, the first occurring when they retire from the stage. Technically, I haven’t retired, but it’s been sometime since I’ve experienced my true home under those hot lights. At this point I’m not sure a return’s in the cards for me and that’s a difficult pill to swallow.
For the past few years I’ve had a crisis of sorts with my purpose. Searching for what I’m meant to do, what I thought it was and questioning if maybe it’s developed into something else. My professional career thus far has been in the arts and it’s been quite a stark change having to step away. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities my career has given me, the places it’s taken me and the people who I’ve met along that journey, however, it’s apparent a major change may be necessary.
So, what do I do now? Do I continue trying to pass along this knowledge and experience? Attempt a comeback to the stage? Maybe change careers altogether, go to school and get a degree? Those are the biggest questions I face right now. Not knowing who you are, what you’re supposed to do and where you’re supposed to go has been mentally and physically exhausting. Being in a city that doesn’t particularly embrace, acknowledge or appreciate my professional experience has also been very difficult in a way I never imagined.
For now, I come to you anonymously as Kelsey, your colleague and friend to share conversations over coffee or occasional glass of Riesling. By sharing my journey, my hope is to help others in this often hopeless and lonely venture of finding renewed purpose. When you’re going through a difficult time, it can feel impossible and even embarrassing to talk about. Knowing the feeling of how lonely it can be I sincerely hope this blog reaches others searching for what comes next. You’re not alone.
