About Me — Kirshi Yin
From a Help Desk agent to a software developer. What motivates me to write.
My Path To A Software Developer
A few years ago, I started working at a Help Desk where I met the IT world for the first time. I have a linguistic background and had only basic computer skills. The reason they hired me was because of my foreign language skills.
Although the job was far from enjoyable, I became surprisingly eager to learn more about how IT things worked. My thirst for knowledge grew every time I discovered new topics.
Later, I decided to try out programming. My language choice fell on Java. I read a few books from the collection “Teach Yourself …. in 21 days”. Then I started learning programming from YouTube channels and Udemy courses.
The effort I put into my self-studying was totally worth it. It was a great experience when I wrote my first program and it worked!
Everything I did was just for fun. I gained my experience through hobby projects. I also wrote support tools for the Help Desk to automate boring manual tasks. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to pursue a real IT career. I went to job interviews and got my first role as a Junior Java developer.
