To Whom It May Concern,
My full name is Abdoulaye Barry. I am a 26. year old living in Canada; originally from a small country in west Africa called Guinea. Whenever I tell anyone I am from Guinea, their first assumption is the old Portuguese colony called Guinea-Bissau. I don’t blame them, there’s about 4 different Guinea’s. I am from the old French colony Guinea-Conakry. A nation with a population close to 15 million people. We have numerous ethnic groups (I belong to the Fulani tribe), however our official language is French.
Even though I was born in Guinea, I was raised in different countries around the globe due to my dad’s occupation ( A staff of the United Nations). To this day, I have lived and visited close to 20 countries, and my time in these places have taught me more than I could have ever learnt through formal education.
I grew up speaking French, a language that I believe is losing its power and influence in the global realm. Even though many love the sound of French, believe me when I tell you; this language is one of the hardest to master. Dense with conjugations and different accents, I have grown to love the simplicity of English over the complexity of French. I also speak moderate Portuguese. I…
