About Me — Linda Acaster
Fiction writer, history lover, map junkie
Hi! I’m Linda Acaster and thanks for stopping by my Profile. We are all busy so I’ll keep this short.
I’m a Brit from the English county of Yorkshire, situated halfway up the country. My close family currently lives a short walk from the chilly North Sea, which proved a spiritual balm during repeated Covid lockdowns. A writer needs to refill the creative well, and for me nothing beats the majesty of Nature.
I started my career writing short fiction for various mainstream and small press magazines before broadening my scope into writing weekend walks for a regional newspaper. I was a keen walker at the time, so why not be paid for something I enjoyed? My unique selling point was ‘history hidden in the landscape’. This focus proved fortuitous when I came to write novels, especially the later dual timeline trilogy Torc of Moonlight. Who knew Celtic water deities would prove such a fertile subject — ooh, puns as well!
I remain fascinated by maps, be it the historic Mappa Mundy or Google’s modern StreetView, though to my mind nothing can hold a candle to the British Ordnance Survey series for its depth of geographical, geological, and historical detail — a serious mine of information in a fold-out sheet.
