About Me — Liya
Hi. I’m Liya.
Though I’ve been an avid medium user for almost a year now, I have yet to really commit to posting articles in any meaningful way. With this post, I’m of course hoping to change that.
I am a Black American woman who grew up in the Midwest. Because of that, I grew up surrounded by a lot of people who looked nothing like me. Though I had my family and family friends, outside of that I had very few chances to interact with other black kids.
Luckily I ended up with a pretty diverse range of friends by the time I entered high school, so ultimately I had a generally positive school experience (aside from a few incidents).
There are a lot of things about that specific set of circumstances I grew up in that affected me deeply. They had a monumental effect on shaping my worldview and a lot of my values.
Currently, I’m on summer break from school where I’m pursuing a degree in statistics. I work at a bookstore (best job I’ve ever had!!).
I enjoy math a lot more than the average person. There is something about numbers and certainty that is very satisfying to me. One plus one will always equal two.
