How Dumb I was in school

Note:- This is the first time I am sharing this with anyone…

😔 I studied in one school which is there in my hometown:- Jalalabad, Punjab, India. I used to mug up everything there and understood nothing in my primary and middle school till I got into class X.

😓 I mugged up even the solution of Prove that square root of 5 is irrational I didn’t know about anything what is irrational or anything. I used to mug up everything (even the steps).

😩 But you know what, I started coming at first place in my exams from class 3rd and I thought that I am the smartest kid in the room and it haunted me lifelong and I kept on mugging up things whole day (book worm).

😵‍💫 Now, When i got Physics, Maths, Chemistry and computer science in Class 11th. I got a major setback because I was not able to understand a thing.

This is me: No idea where to go

But even no one was there to mentor, I didn’t have any internet access back then in 2015 and also didn’t know that what i will do after my High school (Class XII).

😡 I decided to take dummy admission in school where i don’t have to go to school and i will prepare for JEE advanced by myself (I got to know about this entrance exam from one of my friend). I studied from 8am to 8Pm daily from books for approx 6 months and it did wonders.

🫡 My mind finally started working and I was finally able to solve some small questions of physics and maths.

Life changing decision

Now, while time came to give the JEE advanced exam to get admission to IIT (IITs are prestigious Indian institutes in India, mainly for engineering) I cracked this exam without any mentoring or coaching in my first attempt but I didn’t get any good college as i just crossed the cutoff to clear the exam.

😰 Now i decided to go out of my comfort zone (study out of home). My father is a hard working man and he managed to pay my 1 year fees to get coaching for JEE advanced exam from Kota, Rajasthan (The suicide city of India).

I stayed in kota for a year and while preparing I went into depression due to home sickness and got chickenpox. But I started believing on myself after i cracked the exam on my first attempt.

Reasons of going into depression were:-

  • Overthinking about my future
  • Not doing any physical work
  • Porn addiction (Do more outdoor activities if you are around 18 years old, this addiction is overkilling your dreams. It is bad in excess)
  • make sure you talk and go out regularly with friends and please talk!!

😈 Although, It was a very bad time for me while preparing for JEE, But I cracked it with very good rank and got one of the Prestigious college which is IIT Gandhinagar and that too in Computer science.

Reality hits hard

🥴 After coming to college, i noticed that everyone is so talkative and very extrovert. I was not able to make an english sentence in my mind while speaking to someone in english.

I got sidelined from every “So called Toppers groups”. I never got into any good group while making projects while i was in my first year.

😓 But I kept going, Why?

  • Because i was not someone who had very good financial backup
  • Because I was not someone who came from a very good english medium school
  • Because I was not someone who knew how to present yourself and a hell lot of things….

Soon, When i noticed groupism in my college. I stopped giving a shit about it and I focused on learning Machine learning by myself in my first year itself.

Line that hit me hard:- While being in second year I heard that people talking about me that “some people are pseudo CS guys, who get into colleges somehow but don’t know anything”.

😈 That is when I joined Gym (trust me, please do some physical activities) and locked myself in a beast learning mode. I cracked one Machine learning research based internship, which was meant for Third year undergraduates but being in second year I cracked it.

WAKE UP TO REALITY! NOTHING EVER GOES PLANNED IN THIS ACCURSED WORLD

Now, my batchmates saw me as some guy with some knowledge, and now whenever any project came some people started to call me that they want me in their project.

TIP:- Never take anyone serious in your life, if you want to take it serious then take motivation to do something

🚀 But late in my third year I got one Guy (Arpit Patel) who matched his vibes with me and we worked hard on one project named “Multithread Proxy server with cache in C Programming language” and we learnt a lot.

Fast forward to my Software engineer career

After sometime when i got over from my every weakness, I studied very hard with my friends:- Vaibhav khandare, Taha mohammad syed and we got placed in very good companies in our final year.

We(three) prepared, peer learnt, gave coding contests and pointed out each other’s weaknesses.

My current working location:- Bangalore, India

Now, I am working as a Backend engineer in Bangalore, India. But I will give few tips:-

  • It doesn’t matter what your financial situation is
  • It doesn’t matter what your school or background was (past)
  • It doesn’t matter what are your skills when you start learning
  • There is always a start which is in your hands

People now see me as a person who is from Tier 1 college and that’s why I got a Software developer Job. But this is the first time I am sharing my story with anyone that it was never easy.

I would like to thank Mrityunjay saraf, Lavanya Naik, Yogesh kumar dhawan, Vaibhav khandare and Taha mohammad syed while i was going through any of my tough phase in my college.

🚀 Motive behind starting my Youtube Channel

🎉 We just hit 10k subs on our youtube channel that I started solely with these purposes:-

  • guide people like I was, who are struggling, comparing themselves, overthinking and so on
  • help people by bringing industry level software development content for free so that people can learn something (as internet is so cheap in India nowadays)
  • I will keep doing this and ignoring haters because even if 10 out of 1000 people are getting something valuable i am happy.
