I took a quiz to determine my emotional age once. It turned out I was split exactly between four-year-old and sixty-plus. “Sounds about right,” a friend said. Everyone else in the room nodded.

I’m married, mother of one and, if all goes well, of a rainbow baby (i.e. born after at least one miscarriage, three in my case) in February. I was born and raised in France, but left my home country over ten years ago to live in other Western European countries: Belgium, Germany, and now Switzerland. As a multilingual, multicultural country that embraced neutrality from its inception, firmly entrenched on the continent, Switzerland can be described as forming a sort of mini European Union before it was cool. I love it here.

Among other jobs, I’ve worked as an actress, a fairy/clown for children’s birthday parties, and for fifteen years as a translator. That career allowed me to develop an eye for detail and accuracy, as well as my playful, inventive side (I’ve yet to meet a pun I couldn’t translate). I’m on hiatus to focus on writing.

My maternal grandparents were farmers and never had the chance to study even though they wanted to. My parents told me again and again that if they’d had the chance, they’d have done well in college. Being able to choose my major, get a degree…
