About Me — Mariana González
Mexican Canadian. Writer, Traveller, Wellness Advocate
Hola!
My name is Mariana, and I like to say that I am Mexican by birth, Canadian by heart (and by choice).
But I have to confess that by now I feel more Canadian than Mexican, specially when I forget some Spanish words and end up using spanglish.
But my favourite cuisine is still Mexican, tacos are life!!
How did I end up in Canada?
Glad you asked!
I was born and raised in the northern city of Monterrey. I was in university when I embarked on my first solo trip abroad to Vancouver to study and practice my English.
I often call this trip one of those sliding door moments (have you seen the movie?) because it literally changed my life.
I fell in love with the city, with the country. It opened my eyes to other cultures, food and languages when I met people all over the world.
I submerged myself in the experience so much that I didn’t want to go back home at the end of my semester there. And I knew right then, that one day Canada was going to be my home.
My parents thought it was a phase, that I would eventually settle back in Mexico, but I never really did…
