After almost two years on Medium, I’ve finally put this together, so here we go!
The Basics:
I was born and raised in California and have lived here my whole life.
My parents came separately from the Philippines to the US for more opportunities their country couldn’t offer. While looking, they found each other, and now you are reading my words.
They provided a great life for us kids, and their sacrifices opened more opportunities for their grandchildren — only in America!
I never met a Mark I didn’t like.
Speaking of, my personal heroes include Mark Hamill, Mark Zuckerberg, Mark Cuban, Mark Twain, and Mark Wahlberg.
Yes, I am Filipino, and no, I don’t eat lumpia every day.
I can speak my native language, and I’m very proud of the history and culture, but I believe many traditions and ways should be forgotten.
Given that I’ve grown up in America, I may have gone to my ancestral country a few times, but I consider myself “white as rice.”
