About Me — Mark Laflamme
My Journey from lab rat to an aspiring chef and writer
Hello!
I’m a little late for this game, but now is an excellent time to write About Me.
I could tell you all the boring stuff, like where I grew up, went to school, worked a day job, and so on, but I’d rather not. Okay, maybe just a bit of that.
I went to school, played hockey, raced bicycles, wrestled, and held a second-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate. As you can tell from the photo above, although I no longer race competitively, I enjoy mountain biking in the mud.
Oh, and I’ve literally seen a car fall from the sky and land an inch in front of mine while I was driving on the highway. But I’m not quite ready to talk about that. Not yet.
So, what brings a lab rat to Medium?
A not-so-peculiar childhood
Growing up was neither an adventure nor downright dull. My father was a Québequois construction worker who moved with my mother to the USA to find work in the mid-1960s. And that’s where my story begins. I was born in the USA and moved to Canada when I was very young, before starting school.
That was for the best, as there are few francophone schools in the USA.
