About Me — Mary Papas
A common name- an uncommon character
I am Mary Papas.
Well, not really.
That’s my pen name.
My real name is Maria Papadopoulou, but I am not using that, because it has to be the most common name here in Greece.
It has to be the equivalent of Helen Smith for USA.
Contrary to my extremely common name, I have a definitely not so common character.
Ever since I was a kid, I could feel things very deeply. I would crave for intimacy and privacy at the same time. I also had a wild zest for life. I wanted to do everything. Play every board game. Read every book. Study everything. Try every job out there. Travel everywhere.
But it was because I couldn’t do everything, that I started writing. It was the only way for me to live as many lives as possible and have total control over it.
I am a college graduate with majors in Translation and Creative Writing. To this day, I keep signing up for new courses to hone my writing skills. I firmly believe there’s always something new to learn; I am convinced I will be signing up for new courses even when (and if) I hit 100!
I believe in the kind of love that makes you lose touch with reality and become a better person at the same time. I haven’t found that in real life (yet) but I have found it in books, movies and shows. I do live vicariously through others, and that has made me a better writer.
I am thrilled to be here on Medium, sharing and reading stories.
My short fiction books on Amazon are my pride and joy (more on the way!)
