When I went into High school I didn’t go in like other students. The summer before going into freshman year I had a terrible accident. I fell off the front of a speeding boat and was sucked under, getting spit out the other side. Luckily the blades missed most of my vital areas. Yet, the propellor blades hit my right leg near the hamstring and turned it to mince meat. Getting back to the dock the ambulance rushed me to the nearest hospital. They put me under in the ambulance and rushed me into surgery not knowing how many injuries I had sustained. During the surgery they had to remove 30% of my hamstring muscle that was lacerated and soaked in bay water. When they took me out of surgery and I was recovering in the hospital I woke up while on the anesthesia. I heard the doctors talking about me and then I heard my parents talking too. They were all wondering if I would recover well but I couldn’t open my eyes or mouth to talk to them. I was paralyzed by medication and unable to move my body at all. It was a terrifying experience and I didn’t know if I was alive or dead. Luckily the effects were only temporary. My days as the fastest kid on the lacrosse team were over.
I started High school on crutches, with PTSD and sleeping issues but I didn’t know how to talk about any of these. My…
