Where do I even start? The first thing that comes to mind when writing this is Tinder or Hinge. The idea of taking an in-progress memoir and making it even more condensed seems diminishing. However, that would defeat that point that is an introduction, wouldn’t it?

My name is Max Micallef (They/He/She), and I’m a proud Queer identifying person both in sexual orientation and gender identity. I’m also a proud Democratic Socialist and Queer rights activist here in New York State and beyond. I continue to hold multiple different political and advocacy roles including campaign advising, policy creation, coalition building, community outreach, communications & messaging, and general operations and strategy directly with people seeking public office.

I firmly believe that everything is intersectional. Environmental action, healthcare, the massive wealth disparity, racial justice, immigration, women’s rights, disability rights, campaign finance reform, and so much more, are inherently Queer rights issues. Both in identity and in policy, most matters are Queer matters as our community is an intersectional one. A phrase I state often is that Queer rights are human rights, and Queer policy is progressive policy.

Besides my individual work in LGBTQ+ advocacy, I currently serve as the Public Policy Coordinator & Community Liaison with GLSEN Lower Hudson Valley and serve as a member of the Advisory Council with EqualityNY and Queery.

In terms of my writing, the topics of Queer rights (as expected), progressive policy (of course), sex (spicing it up), mental health (a must), and contemplative thought are currently my main themes. I try not to limit myself though.

With this, I am also a suicide attempt survivor, a recovering (recovered) alcoholic, and live with diagnosed depression and anxiety. I practice Wicca in a very modern, cultural sense, and spiritually would say I’m Universe-minded. This while wholeheartedly an uplifter of scientific fact, obsessed with the work done by organizations including the Union of Concerned Scientists.

What I call positive existentialism appeals a lot to me. Meaning, none of this matters, while also love being the only answer as it shows itself in its many forms.

Speaking of love, I would love it if you joined me on this journey we call life, as I would love to join you. We are fluid creatures, and I’m excited to share my perspective, experiences, and who I am, together :)
