About Me — Michael Naylor
Hello there.
Here I am again. I am not sure how many times I have decided to start writing more the first was back in 2002 in high school and the latest before today was mid-2023. There was always an excuse, something more urgent, or mostly if I'm being honest fear of failure stopping me.
This time I have promised myself this will be different. I have started journalling and kept that habit up for 14 days, writing this About Me article is step 2.
I am a Computer Science Teacher from the UK. I am the Subject Lead at a large secondary school and the National Lead Practitioner of Computing for a large Academy Trust. Teaching was not my first career, although it was the first job I wanted, life took me on a different path with many different paths before I started teaching at 30.
This was the job I always wanted but after I dropped out of college at 16 it would be almost 10 years before I went back into education to get my degree and train to teach. The lure of even the paltry £100 a week I was to be paid was too much for me as a care leaver who had never had much of anything to call my own before this.
I had several jobs from Library Assistant to Green Keeper eventually ending up in a call center for a UK phone network. I did this job which I hated for 4 years. I was by all metrics great at my job…
