Let me introduce myself the way I’d like my epitaph to read:
In my teens, I concluded that love is the ultimate prize. It is the elixir to all of life’s strife. It is omnipresent and so vast it can’t be contained. Love for people, nature’s wonders, work, trials, experiences, and for oneself. I am grateful for this journey of life.
As a teacher, and the child of Africans of the Baby Boomer generation; I was raised on a generous dose of tough love. Consequently, I too love with a balanced dose of toughness. Life, as glorious as it is, presents many challenges. Childhood is preparation for adulthood, a time to acquire the skills to face inevitable obstacles. Love is not just Cocomelon sing-alongs, hugs, kisses, and daily sweet treats. It involves correction, direction, patience, boundaries, and butting heads, especially in the early years. In the almost two decades I’ve worked with children, I’m eager to share my observations and experiences with parents. Early childhood is a crucial phase of development which, if approached correctly, can provide every child with a sturdy foundation.
Life has taught me that you cannot embody one characteristic without carrying its opposite trait. As sensible as I am, I also revel in foolishness. I don’t take life too seriously. The…
