I love self-indulgent writing. The fact that this publication is actually encouraging me to write about me, myself, and I? With the impression that someone out there will want to read it, even if it doesn’t include a listicle telling them the ten easiest ways to go viral on Medium or the six tricks to living your best life? What a lovely, just slightly delusional, dream.
I am 28 years old, female, Bangladeshi. My Bangladeshi (and hence South Asian) heritage, being a woman, being a ‘cusp-er’, ie. straddling the line between Millennial-hood and acceptance into Gen Z, are all very important aspects of my personhood to me. Most of what I write or talk about in life have to do with these topics in some way. If they don’t directly relate, I will probably go on a tangent and make them relate.
I’ve also been an expat for most of the last decade of my life. First as an international student, then as a working professional. Not sure if I count as a global citizen yet though, as my Global South passport currently means I have to frequently write long letters convincing embassies I am worthy of visiting their great country, often offering them my kidney or my not yet conceived first born as…
