About Me — Nanette Lai
Updated May 8 2024 I advocate accessibility, animal welfare – sometimes both simultaneously to save time for maximum output. I also write to promote human and animal health.
Ever wonder about my handle?
I call myself an unbalanced dog trainer for the following reasons:
- I’m physically disabled. I am literally unbalanced.
I have multiple sclerosis (MS) — which I keep saying is what makes me more Canadian than simply my passport. Did you know that Canada has some of the highest rates of MS around the world? We’re talking 1 in every 4 Canadians. If you ever encounter a lottery offering those odds for winning money, buy a ticket!
From experiencing episodic physical disability, I have recognized the barriers present in pet dog training with both positive reinforcement and positive punishment.
While I presently am functionally intact, I know many pet dog owners are not. Which is why I publish stories on Medium containing video links to help those pet dog owners — disability can be temporary, episodic, or permanent. Barriers already exist for those individuals, and I want to bring some fun and hope into others’ lives.
