About Me — Oluwatobi Adetoun
I’m a creative polymath blending art and tech. From poetry, rap and articles to design and web development.
Hello! My name is Oluwatobi, but you can call me Tobi. I’m from Lagos, Nigeria, and a global citizen thanks to the internet. I navigate both art and tech — writing, recording, and performing poetry and music (check out my Spotify page), while also developing designs, editing videos, and building websites for individuals and businesses (My portfolio).
I started writing quite early. My first bits of writing were short poems that found expression in my solitary moments. There was a period in my life where I'd be by myself after school and just write poems about how I was feeling in those moments. Unfortunately, a lot of these poems are now lost in unfound notebooks.
I grew up in church and a lot of my beliefs are founded upon biblical principles. I’ve had many different experiences and I find that I'm the most powerful when I'm in tune with my faith and spirituality.
There are so many great experiences I can remember from church— being in the choir, joining a dance-group and going on to win a second place medal with my group in a national competition, skipping Heritage Class (our morning bible study classes before the main services) to play soccer with friends and just spending my teenage years socialising as much as I had the opportunity to.
I write about life and my experiences; the things I've learned growing up and some of what I'm currently learning. I share some of my struggles in my poems and try to capture moments in slow motion with my words. I love to create pieces that encourage people to do and be more. Being that I'm always trying to do that myself. I'm always learning and observing, trying to find ways that things can be done better, and finding adequate solutions to every day problems.
I studied Communication in the university. I started my programming journey a year ago and although it's not been the easiest ride, I really love the idea of being a programmer. And I'd love to build impactful products in the near future.
There's a lot more to unpack and I'll be happy to share bits and pieces in my stories as they come along, so that you know the writer, and have a better understanding of why I think the way I do. I hope you join me on my writing journey.
