About Me — Pallabi Dey Purkayastha
“We have got a celebrity among us!”
If being blunt could pay, I swear I would be a billionaire by now. I do not know how to shut my mouth.
People say God skipped filters on me. They are right.
It gets so awkward; just ask my family. I have put them in a spot several times with my brain-fart moments. This one time, when I was really young, I visited my neighbors with my mother. The family was sweet, but they did not offer me any food or drinks besides a glass of water out of courtesy. Upset, I asked the aunty if they didn’t offer refreshments to other children guests in the locality or if it was just me.
My mother turned blue with embarrassment.
I could tell she was glaring from the corner of my eyes, but I wanted my glass of piping hot milk and some biscuits, and I didn’t care about what awaited me when I got back home.
The lady laughed nervously and rushed to the kitchen to bring me something to eat.
When she arrived with a tray, I was confused. I asked a question… again:
“Only milk, aunty? Don’t you have any biscuits to go with it?”
No points for guessing what happened when my father heard about it at night, but hey, at least I got what I wanted.
