In the interest of full disclosure, my wife took the above picture of me about ten years ago when I was in my mid-sixties. You do the math. I tried to take a new selfie, but Siri kept making snide comments. PhotoShop was no help. So, I went with this one.

Let’s get the boring demographic stuff out of the way, first. You already know I’m kinda old. I live in a suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma called Broken Arrow. My wife and I have lived here forty of our forty-eight years of marriage. Before that, we did brief tours in Dallas, Springfield, Missouri, and St. Louis.

We have two adult children, five grandchildren, and one dog. Personal disposition and life experience molded me into a conservative politically. Now that doesn’t mean I’m a white supremacist anymore than it makes a run-of-the-mill liberal an anarchist. Which is to say, not all of us with different spots are horn and hoof extremists. So let’s be friends. I’m a Republican and Methodist, both in reasonably good standing.

Now on to the good stuff.

Most folks call me Phil, I prefer that. My full first and middle are Philip Van which only by my mother used when she was mad at me or wanted to get my attention.
