About Me — Prashanth Bajpe
A life scientist’s quest for meaning.
Medium found me, or perhaps I found Medium nearly three weeks ago. Writing about myself though seemed easy, but I found it very hard. I am in my late forties (47 to be precise) working as a teacher and a researcher. I am used to academic writing, but writing long-form pieces about topics that normally reside in my head is a new venture for me.
What I do?
I teach subjects like Molecular Biology and Pharmacology at the university. I used to think that becoming a university professor was the only pursuit in my life. I no longer think that way. I believe that happiness is what I should be after.
My education
I did a PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics. It is an enormous joy and privilege to study and discover something which is unknown to humanity. As I get older, watching my child grow before my eyes, a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes gives me greater joy.
Writing
Writing makes me think and rethink my beliefs and prejudices. It is the time I spend with myself. Writing puts all my thoughts in line like the herding dogs that guide sheep into formation.
Why write in English when I know two other languages- Kannada and Hindi? This is…
