My name isn’t Agent Ranch Hand. I know that’s a bit of a shocker, but I have recently started going by Ranch in my personal life. My kids roll their eyes at Wendy’s when they see my pen name on the display when my order is ready.
I started writing as a hobby. As a kid, I absorbed stories. Earlier, I was obsessed with Fox and The Hound, Secret of Nimh, and Watership Down. I supposed it had something to do with my love of being outdoors and learning about hunting and conservation with my grandfather on the farm.
I am an avid viewer of old westerns and a reader of pulp stories like Flash Gordon, Tarzan, Conan the Barbarian, and others. When I was a kid, I was addicted to comic books. I started my collection with a Daredevil comic, and from then on, I decided that dark storytelling was more important than bright, shiny, happy characters. I was more involved in the broken relationships of Matt Murdock than I was in the graphic violence of Frank Miller…
