About Me — Rebecca O’Brien
Hey! You managed to stumble upon my article on the world wide web, welcome! My name is Rebecca, but you can call me Becca or Bex. I’m the oldest of four siblings from a small town in Maryland, USA. I love my family, my kitties, coffee, music, nature, creating, and math. Yes, I play sudoku for fun!
My parents divorced when I was 8, and my dad got remarried. So that made me the oldest of six! I’ve often put pressure on myself being the oldest, but over the years, I have learned that life is a journey, not a race.
I have two cats, Marby and Gelato; I absolutely adore them with all of my heart. ❤
My little sisters moved away, and I live with my mom and younger brother. They are all my best friends. My mom, brother, and I currently reside in the town my siblings and I grew up in. We are blessed to come from this small, beautiful area of the world
One of my favorite places to admire the beauty in nature is by a lake or pond while fishing. It’s so peaceful for me to stand by the water and feel the breeze kiss my skin. Sometimes I find myself taking more pictures than fishing. It helps the time pass while I’m waiting for the fish to bite!
Growing up, I have always loved writing. Whether it was my thoughts, feelings, poems, or essays for school, I enjoyed writing. It feels good to be able to write out everything going on in my brain. The internet is an incredible tool we have access to now. We can share our thoughts with anyone, anywhere, any time!
I joined Medium after my sister told me about it. I find it beautiful we can share stories and ideas with our words. We all have a voice, and I want to use Medium to share mine. I want to use it as a tool to shed light on those living with Epilepsy. Even if just one person reads a story of mine, that’s a win for me! I also love to write about anything that intrigues or inspires me.
I am currently working for myself as a freelancer and an Etsy Shop owner. DesignsByBexUS is my Shop name. Working from home has been isolating at times, but it has helped me to find myself again.
I do struggle to live with Epilepsy. I have not lived with it my whole life. I started having seizures at the age of 23; I am almost 26 now. I have grown to improvise, adapt, and overcome. I may not be exactly where I want to be, but I believe I am right where I need to be. Life is full of beauty, and I think we all need to take a step back and admire it.
