I was born and raised and have always lived in Ohio. I was raised in a very conservative Traditional Catholic family with a few oddly feminist leanings. From 3rd grade to the middle of high school, I was homeschooled, but I finished my diploma at a Catholic school.
One of my formative experiences was writing a story for a kids' magazine about the far-off year of 2050 (the magazine came out in 2000). It was a silly little story, where I imagined that we could in 50 years be able to reach the moon in 20 minutes and have bike races there. Still, I received lots of praise for this, including a pen pal request from one of the other kids who read the magazine. It ignited my dream of becoming a writer.
My mother was a seamstress with two streams of income. Nowadays, we would call it freelancing, but she would have clients come to the house and get some work and cash. She also had a job making alterations at a clothing store that eventually became Macy’s. Before I was born, she worked at a bridal store and made wedding dresses.
