A — Arachnophobia

This is one of my biggest phobias, along with losing a loved one and looking at fish eggs. Few things in life trigger such a complete and total shutdown of my pre-frontal cortex like a spider in my presence. Dignity goes out the window. I don’t do well with bugs, but my best panic attacks are reserved for these beady-eyed, eight-legged critters.

B — Bibliophile

A surefire way to my heart is through a book. Or a bookstore. Or a library. Or even a library card. Books have been a mainstay in my life since childhood when I was a non-English speaking first-generation Peruvian desperately trying to connect to the world around me. I have more books than I’ll ever read, and I’m perfectly okay with that.

C — Cold

I love the cold. Whether it’s fall or winter, it doesn’t matter. I love the smell of the brisk air and seeing my puffs of breath outside. I love the accompanying soft, cozy clothing; the warm, creamy libations; and the way the cold settles around you. The cold gives me a quiet, protective shelter where it’s okay to draw inward physically and mentally. I even like the words associated with the…
