Picture of the author. Can you guess my age correctly? You will find the answer after a few lines.

Hi everyone! I am Ritu. I believe I have always been wiser than results. Some readers must be wondering, ‘How’s that possible?’. After all, the outcome of an event is mostly the result. If we follow THIS norm, there won’t be a single outcome or result that can fully define my wisdom or foolishness.

Why Should You Read This?

There’s a life lesson for everyone as a takeaway. I will follow a ‘question-answer’ format to make your reading experience swift.

Who Are You Reading About?

I am 25 years old, and I am sure many of you couldn’t guess my age. My friends keep telling me that my face can be a classic example of “don’t judge a book by its cover”.

I graduated with honors in History from one of the top colleges in my country. I am currently working as a freelance content writer with an educational enterprise. During school, I used to be a national-level chess player.

What Shaped Me?

  • A happy childhood.
  • Traumatic teenage years.
  • Kindness of a few.
  • Betrayal of many.
  • Zeal to make my mother proud.
  • Rash decisions & late reflection.
  • Yet, I am always enthusiastically learning.

Who Shaped My Early Years?

My father. He was a great man. People used to come to our house every day to seek help from my father. As kind as he was, his wisdom was profound. His few words used to impact everyone. Sadly, he passed away after a massive heart attack in 2012. His teachings, memories, humor, and love continue to shape my life even now as well. And it will always shape my life.

Did I Conquer Academics or It Conquered Me?

I live in India and getting good grades here equals being a ‘good’ kid. As per this benchmark, you can say I conquered academics. But I am not good at mathematics at all. I still wonder how I cleared my board exams. Please note here that results do not measure your actual potential.

What led to my career choices?

So, I started my career as a part-time content writer for two organizations. I used freelance for both. Also, I didn’t feel the need to explore other options. I also started working as a digital marketer for a chess academy. Later, I moved towards political consultancy. I was 22 years old when I felt I should quit the boring 9 to 5 and do something for the betterment of people. That was when I should have planned. But I didn’t. I thought I had ample time to figure out everything. Guess who was wrong?

What Happened Next?

I started preparing for the civil services exam but without a formidable plan. Naturally, I failed. I remained unemployed for more than two years and, these days, I regret it a lot. That’s why I chose to write about myself today. Rash decisions do not help you in the long run. It might give you huge gains, but they are mostly temporary. Efficient planning will help you to achieve your long-term goals.

Who Am I Becoming?

I believe setbacks teach you a lot of stuff that one doesn’t find in books. They are essential for growth. I learned from my mistakes. Now, I am trying my best to rectify them. To be honest, things aren’t going smoothly. It will take time to get things back on track. Nevertheless, I will keep trying.

If you can identify what went wrong and rectify it by yourself, then congratulations. You have become wiser than your results.
