I’d rather die, than be famous…
How many times in a whole year do you get asked “tell me a bit about yourself.” Maybe on a first date or in the sporadic interview, but seldom do you need to write a quasi autobiography for a new audience. The prospect of talking about yourself in detail to many is both exciting and daunting, but to me, presenting myself to an audience is my passion.
Hey, I’m Rodrigo, an aspiring artist pursuing a life in music and all that embodies art. As you can see in the picture above, I’m in a band! We’re called-
Ivory
We’re a alternative metal band that combines soft, dreamy, alluring vocals with hypnotically heavy instruments. We describe our sound as-
“Sex is poetry, Death is beautiful”
Our music is beautifully a macabre poetry that revolves around the antithetical aforementioned. It is not just “metal for the sake of metal.” We just like to package our thoughts and feelings along with heavy music because well, it’s fun of course! we produce a beautifully sexy and eerie macabre- all in one listen…
However, I bet a ton of questions have began to stir in your mind like “what caused him to pick up music?” “has he always been into music?” “why make music about that, in that genre?” “what other arts is he into?”
Let me actually talk about myself
I was born and raised in the lustrous Las Vegas Nevada surrounded by… nothing artsy at all? Yeah surprisingly I grew up with nothing that influenced my taste in arts. I didn’t really like music as a kid and I especially hated literature which led to me growing up very uncreative. It wasn’t until my late formative years where I grew into the person I truly am. Certain events… surrounding love- led to this bloom.
Short story short, my special darling introduced me to the world of heavy music. Well mostly, because, before her i did listen to a couple of heavier bands such as my all time, forever favorite, most dearest, Deftones. It was through her though, and more importantly, through the loss of her that i found myself alone and without a clear path. Inspired by her and a couple of live shows, I found myself with a guitar in my hand on January 2nd, 2024. Since then, Me and my brother Jadie founded Ivory (February 2024) and have been diligently working on releasing and exposing our art to the world.
I adore spending my days immersed in music, poetry, literature, nature and romance. Nothing beats a warm cup of chai tea, a good book, and the soothing sounds of nature. There really is something in spending a couple minutes nourishing your mind while basking in natures grace. I’m what most would call a spiritualist, I wholeheartedly believe that anything in this world that you are truly passionate, and positive towards, can be manifested. Everyone, including you in this world was ordained with a purpose. You may not fully know or understand what you want to accomplish yet; time and energy must be honed to enlighten yourself on none other than- yourself.
My calling? music of course.
So what do I do / write about?
Most of my days are occupied by two things,
Music and Writing (and writing music hahahah)
Most of the time I’m practicing guitar, honing my skills and coming up with new song ideas. The other stretch of time I’m a creative output. I feel I always have something to say, so i write about it. Most of my writing is through poetry and typically about the topics in my music. A surprising tidbit is that I actually do not write the lyrics for our music. That’s all my brother Jadie’s work. He’s the vocalist, I just play guitar guys. I do however come up with most, actually almost all of our song names and help out with what we are conveying in our art. Since I don’t write lyrics I spit out all my ideas and feelings in poetry and hope to soon release a book of collected poems (I’ll be sure to update on that). On medium, I want to write outside of forms of poetry. I want to write about the music scene/industry, literature, poetry, photgraphy, art-

Now you’re probably saying “thats cool and all but, what do you even want to do on medium?” Well I have a couple goals and purpose behind my writing here.
- Talk and delve into the burning passion i possess for arts (especially music and poetry!)
- Inspire others who may be uncertain or hesitant to pursue passion.
- showing you how to find love and meaning in your life.
- entertain, provide new information, and hopefully make you smile!
I ultimately want share my passions with you to empower and inspire. I want my passions to resonate, regardless of what you might find interesting. So show a little compassion?
