About Me — Rose Culbin
Hi, I’d like to introduce myself. It’s nice to meet you.
I’m a middle-aged single pringle, and ready to mingle with other Medium contributors.
I’ve always wanted to be able to express myself in writing, but working as a credit-controller, any attempts to bring a little humour or panache to my work is generally frowned upon!
I recently joined a local writers’ group to try to gain some experience and learn from others. So far I’ve written a poem about a slug eating my plants, which was fun and well-received, but is unlikely to pay off my mortgage.
In the interests of full-disclosure, I would like to actually earn some money from my writing. Being an impoverished artist, living in a squat, is a romantic notion but not for me.
I’m planning to use this profile to write about the same subjects I would include in a novel: love, life, work, relationships. My divorce and dating disasters are likely to make regular appearances.
I’m hoping to write a mix of non-fiction and short stories, flash fiction and poetry. I’d like to gain experience in all of these forms, to see what works and what fits my writing style.
My writing influences are Marian Keys, Ann Cleeves, Alexander McCall Smith and Donna Leon.
I’m British, so my spellings will all be unapologetically British-English. Get used to it.
