Bio

Hello! My name is Samantha, but I mostly go by Sam. I’m 30 years old, and I live in Clawson, Michigan. I grew up in Clinton Township with my parents and my younger sister, Abby. My sister and I are almost 7 years apart, so when we were younger, we were not the greatest of friends. However, now that we can go out and drink wine (white claws) together, we are soulmates.

I met my husband Josh when we were about 16 years old, but due to life, poor choices in significant others, and general stubbornness, we didn’t start dating until we were about 24. I left a good-but-not-great-4-year-relationship for Josh, and I haven’t looked back. Life is short, don’t settle.

We got married in a barn in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2018 and moved to Clawson shortly after.

We have two rescue pets, a cat named Sophie and a 1-year-old mutt named Juno (pictured above). They are my babies, and they are totally spoiled. They bring so much laughter and frustration into our home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I went to Central Michigan University where I majored in English literature and journalism. Clearly, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do when I grew up, and I still don’t. I’ve had A LOT of jobs. Since college I’ve been a substitute teacher, a retail associate, a data entry specialist, a customer service rep., a mystery shopper, and a swim instructor.

My career path has been long and winding. I was searching for fulfillment and purpose in the corporate world, in the jobs young intellectuals are supposed to have, and it took me a few years to realize I was never going to find it there.

Currently, I work as a massage therapist and a freelance writer. It may not sound glamourous, but I have never been so happy with my career choices. Leaving a hefty paycheck and a 401k was difficult, but now I get to help people, and I get to pursue my true passion — writing. Again, never settle.

COVID kept me from my massage clients, but it pushed me even more into my writing. It’s clear to me now that flexibility, fulfillment, and stability matter much more in a job than fancy offices with slushie machines. In the spring, I took a few courses and got serious about copywriting. I built a website with a portfolio, and I even scored a couple of steady clients.

Passions

I’m often told that I’m too passionate. I’m a very opinionated person, and sometimes keeping that opinion to myself is difficult. Some of my articles are emotionally charged, and they’re written as outlets after heated arguments or disagreements. Here are just a few topics that I’m passionate about:

1. Human rights- Black and LGBTQ+ lives matter

2. Climate change

3. Adopting your pets rather than buying them from a breeder or pet store

4. Body Positivity

5. Women are beautiful and powerful beings and should at the very least be treated equally to men

6. Marriage is a partnership and gender roles are stupid

7. Mental Health is just as important as physical health

8. Real Christmas trees are better than fake ones
