God, I hate writing about myself. Not only do I not enjoy being put on the spot but it always reminds me of going through those dreaded “ice breakers” in school. I definitely understand the purpose however — camaraderie, friendliness, getting to know your fellow classmates, etc. but I guess I just hated feeling compelled to do it rather than the thing itself.

That being said…Hi! I am truly happy you’re here👋🏼 🥰. This process is a lot less daunting since I don’t have to stand up in front of everyone.

I am new to Medium as of September 2023 in an effort to fall back in love with writing. I had always written as a kid, from short poems, and doodles, to random phrases I enjoyed all scattered around the corners of my notebooks. Essay assignments were always easy for me and I typically ended up enjoying them, my advanced placement High School English course was always my favorite part of the day.

My old English teacher, I think, had played a big role in encouraging me to dive deeper into the language, visualizing the stories unfolding, and analyzing the themes hidden between the lines. The coolest thing he would do would be when we were starting a new book, he would set up the classroom to…
