From Singapore to Los Angeles — A journey of code, culture, and curiosity
Hi, I’m Sanjay Nelagadde, a software engineer, lifelong learner, and explorer at heart.
I was born and raised in Singapore, where I had the unique experience of serving two years in the army as part of Singapore’s National Service. It was a formative time that taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of teamwork. After completing my undergraduate degree, I worked there for a few years in the tech industry, gaining hands-on experience and discovering my passion for building impactful software.
Eventually, I made the leap to Los Angeles to pursue a Master’s in Computer Science at USC. This was a pivotal moment in my journey, pushing me to grow not just as a technologist but also as an individual navigating a new culture and community.
Over the past five years, I’ve worked across various startups, where I’ve been fortunate to wear many hats as a software engineer. From scaling web applications to creating mobile experiences, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the dynamic challenges of startup life. Currently, I’m a Senior Software Engineer at a growing startup, leading the development of mobile and web apps hosted on AWS. Lately, my focus has been on mastering iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin & Compose) development, with a goal to craft seamless, user-friendly apps.
Outside of work, I recently got married and have been enjoying the adventure of exploring new places and cultures. Whether it’s discovering hidden gems around Los Angeles or immersing myself in a different way of life, I love the journey of learning and growing through experiences.
