About Me — Saranga Kumarapeli
Hi, I’m Saranga Kumarapeli. I work as a Data Scientist, and what excites me most is using data to solve real problems. For me, data is not just about numbers or charts, it’s about creating tools and insights that actually help people in their day-to-day work.
Right now, I’m at MAS ACME USA, driving projects in analytics, business intelligence, and research-driven initiatives. I also teach as a Visiting Lecturer at the Informatics Institute of Technology, where I cover subjects like Data Mining, Machine Learning, Data Modeling, and Database Systems. Teaching and supervising research has been a great way for me to give back while also learning from fresh perspectives.
Before this role, I worked at MAS Active in Data Analytics and Digital Excellence. I got to build a fabric defect detection tool, design an AI model for invoice extraction, and contribute to dashboards like the EXCO Dashboard and Supplier Scorecard. I also spent time building RPA solutions, Power Apps, and digital automation projects that helped teams save time and work more efficiently.
Along the way, I’ve explored different paths. I worked as a Freelance Data Scientist on advanced analytics projects, joined Kainovation Technologies as a trainee working on POCs like Twitter sentiment analysis and web scraping, and started out at Silueta Technologies as an Industrial Engineer. That first role gave me hands-on exposure to smart factory systems, OEE analytics, and finance transformation tools, which sparked my interest in combining data with business.
All of these experiences have shaped me into someone who can connect technical ideas with real business impact. I enjoy building things that are practical, scalable, and actually useful.
Here on Medium I write about data science, AI, and business intelligence. I don’t just share technical notes, I share lessons from real projects, the challenges I’ve faced, and the wins I’ve celebrated. My goal is to make complex ideas simple, spark curiosity, and connect with people who are just as passionate about innovation and learning as I am.
