I joined Medium because I want to come out of my writing closet and develop a public practice. I’ve stepped out before, but not often enough to count. What interests me most is that which is left unsaid.
My strength as a writer is rooted in my lived experience, as well as my willingness to explore my own faults. Because let’s face it, even if we’re lucky enough to have only foibles or quirks, none of us gets through life without something. And why would we want to? One of our most human qualities is our ability to learn from our mistakes.
Over the years I’ve taken a lot of flak from my family because I tend to call out the proverbial elephant in the room. But I don’t see myself as being negative or a hurtful, I see myself as focusing on the things that make us interesting.
Who wants to hear about everything that’s gone right, when there’s an option to hear about what might’ve gone wrong? There’s no intrigue in perfection. But that doesn’t mean I want to bury you under a misery memoir, either. You’ve got your own sh*t to deal with and I respect that.
