About Me- Simon DaCosta
Sales Professional. Creative. Entrepreneur.
My name is Simon DaCosta. I am a young sales professional and entrepreneur hailing from the island of Jamaica. Now, I’m not the typical “Jamaican” stereotype that you might expect. I’m not of African descent with dreadlocks, nor do I innately speak ‘patois’ which is our local, informal slang that is often used in day to day conversations. Instead, I am of Lebanese descent, with straight hair who speaks standard English. More often than not, when I tell people that I’m from Jamaica, the response is usually something like — “No way, that’s impossible, you don’t look Jamaican” or “You mean you wish you were from Jamaica” HAHAHA.
Here’s the thing — Jamaica’s culture is built up of many backgrounds. It is a literal melting pot. Our motto that’s stated on the Coat of Arms is “Out of Many One People” literally speaks towards this, yet, it is often overlooked by our own people. Another little known fact is that the word “patois” translated in French is “slang”, just to show you how much of a melting pot this little island really is. I could go on and on about my little piece of paradise, but let’s get to the meat of the matter.
What is Simon DaCosta all about?
Well, let’s start here.
