Hello! My name is Sophia, welcome to my page. I didn’t think I would ever be publishing my thoughts aloud, but after finding and exploring Medium for the past several months, I’ve become inspired to share. I feel more comfortable doing so “semi in disguise,” so I pulled out some alliteration and “Sophia Says” was born.

I’ve always put writing on the back burner, even though it is something that makes me feel infinitely better and more at peace with myself. My writing portfolio is limited and consists of mainly messy, scribbled pages in my worn-out $7 journal from Michael’s and poems written on sticky notes on my desk. Regardless, I am eager to be here and attempt to put coherent sentences and ideas together.

I am currently a college student from the East Coast, studying business administration with a focus on marketing. I am approaching my last year of undergrad and that is equally exciting and terrifying for me. My college experience has been messy, challenging, and rewarding. But it has also been incredibly eye-opening. I am excited to share about these moments in my articles, so stay tuned.

Some of my favorite things to do are dancing, reading, binge-watching reality TV and curating Spotify playlists. I started dancing when I was a wee child, but I still enjoy it to this day because it is liberating and offers a distraction from my anxiety and stress. I used to spend hours trying to perfect a slicked-back bun on my head, but now I just let my hair loose and crazy, trading my long ballet classes for high-energy hip-hop, K-pop and street jazz sessions instead.

I picked up reading again a couple of years back after randomly deciding to buy Beach Read by Emily Henry from Target. This book single-handedly propelled me back to my love of stories and getting lost in the details and intricacies of another world. Some of my favorite books are The Secret History by Donna Tartt, Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid & Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. Generally, I am a “no plot, just vibes,” reader. If you are too, Sally Rooney is your gal (she is releasing a new book soon!).

I may have gained some brain cells by embarking on my reader era again, but they were probably immediately killed by my other form of entertainment: reality television. I am not sure when my obsession started, but it did. My current series of choice is Perfect Match. It is sometimes painful to watch, but for some reason, I indulge.

It is also important for me to share that I am a big music lover. Some of my favorite childhood memories include sitting crisscross apple sauce on the floor of the living room while flipping through stacks of my dad’s CD collection. I would put disc after disc in the CD player, always intrigued to hear what each album and song would sound like. Now, I hear a song and immediately run to Spotify to make a niche, playlist that only ends up having five songs on it because I can’t find any more that fit the “vibe.” Please send any and all song recs, it would be much appreciated.

Anyway, I feel like I have overshared maybe a little bit. I hope you will stick around. Building community is super important to me. I want to get to know you as much as you are getting to know me through reading my sometimes (always) random posts. I don’t know exactly what my “genre” is going to be on Medium yet, but I don’t want to put any labels on it. I want to share my interests and life experiences in the hopes that something will resonate with one of you.

Thanks a billion for reading, catch you soon.
