Hi there, I’m Susie. Welcome to my About Me story, a combination of introspection, introduction, and hopefully inspiration.
I was born in Greenwich Village, NY to two old school Italian parents who lived in a rent control apartment. My parents had me later in life because my mom was scared to give birth after witnessing her twin sister deliver her firstborn in a toilet bowl during a blizzard. I would imagine that’s fairly traumatizing, so I don’t blame her too much…though I did for many years. My mom, Claire married her best friend’s cousin (they’re still best friends), Ron, twelve years her senior. I was born an only child in ’97 two years after my mom’s miscarriage.
My dad ran his own construction company, where he specialized in custom cabinetry. He had a slew of odd jobs through his years from bartending to floral arrangement, working for the ASPCA, and freelancing. He often did work for celebrities, and one time he walked in on Eddie Murphy urinating in his own bathroom.
After high school, my mom became a secretary for a union, where she worked full-time for men in big suits. She was the fastest typer in the whole place and only took one day off per year because she loved it so much.
