About Me — Swaroopa Gadgil
I yoga in a saree. I drape a saree, and I practice yoga!
I stay rooted to my cultural heritage doing both.
And, I love to tell stories about the saree and the Yoga.
I come from India. I grew up in Mumbai.
And I’ve now lived in the United States for over 23 years.
My motherland India gave me the anchoring roots. And my beloved America has given me wings to fly.
I became a “reluctant Yogi” at the age of 10 when my dad first woke me up at 6 am to practice sun salutations. Despite the initial resistance of a sleepy preteen, I never knew when the passion for this ‘Art of Health’ sunk it’s lifelong hook in me.
Today, I have taught Yoga to thousands of people of all ages and abilities for over 20 years as a trained teacher.
I am a Physical Therapist who has worked with people from all walks of life for the past 26 years. I have worked with humans in their own homes, in a clinic and in all sorts of hospitals and buildings.
I have been privileged to witness people in their most vulnerable and painful moments, and share my humility, compassion and skill to alleviate some of it.
I am also a mother to a very special child who is uniquely gifted and challenged in his own way.
