About Me — Synthia S.
Canadian Therapist | Crisis Responder | Former Academic Researcher & Human Resources Professional
Hello Medium writers,
My name is Synthia and I’m a female in her twenties who is born and raised in Canada. My cultural ancestry is Sri Lankan. I can speak English and have some working proficiency in French as well.
At the time of publishing, I was doing my second rodeo of graduate school, particularly in the field of counselling psychology. As of August 2021, I have graduated from this program.
As of October 2021, I have become a fully licensed therapist.
For a bit of context, I did my Honours Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology and my first Master’s degree in Developmental and Child Psychology. While studying, I worked and volunteered across a variety of interdisciplinary research projects and initiatives, while scoring odd jobs on campus as a poll clerk, student researcher, exam invigilator, and many more.
After graduating with my degrees, I spent some time working in the corporate landscape, mostly as a human resources professional for some pretty big companies. It was a great experience, all things considered. Then, the pandemic happened, and I got laid off.
