I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. My first short story was written when I was still a single-digit kid about a farmer who found a magic ring that granted him an abundance of wealth.
Unfortunately, I still haven’t found the ring.
What I have found is an undying thirst to tell stories. Initially, when I went to college, I started as a Secondary English Education major. I thought it would be ridiculous to try to be a full-time author. It was practical. It wouldn’t possibly feed me and a family.
And here I am a couple of years later *ahem* and that’s what I’m doing full-time.
What changed things for me were these pesky blood clots that tried to end my life in 2012 when my fiance and I had just moved to Hawai’i. They either started in my legs or my ovaries and they moved into my lungs. I was misdiagnosed with bronchitis, but I’d had that before. It felt nothing like the two-ton elephant that was sitting on my chest, the constant hacking cough, the lack of energy, and the general feeling of horrible.
When I finally took a cab to the hospital, (after assuring the cabbie that I wouldn’t die in his car and to just drive), the attending doctor was shocked that I was upright. I think my oxygen level was somewhere in the…
