Hi there! I’m Tatiana! My personal story started in the enchanting city of Brest in Belarus. Since then, a lot has changed, and life led me to the lively city of Warsaw, Poland, where I live now.

What sets me apart is my ability to converse in seven languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, Polish, Russian, and Belarusian.
Beyond the world of words, I find pacification in the sensual glide of skating, where I tell my own story through my movements. In addition to this, I have one more way of inspiration and self-expression — the piano.

I want to share my articles, stories, poetry, and travel notes here on Medium. Every written piece I create expresses my personal experiences and emotions. However, my aspirations go beyond just writing. I want to find like-minded people and friends and connect with writers whose works have inspired me, and I will not hide that it’s my cherished dream. In addition to this, I would love to contribute to the Medium community by serving as an editor for various Medium journals.

Academic journey. Macondo and Gabriel García Márquez
In 2022, I graduated from the Institute of Iberian and Ibero-American Studies at the University of Warsaw and obtained a master’s degree in humanities based on the work entitled “Macondo and its different facets as a translation challenge: the comparative analysis based on Gabriel García Márquez’s novel One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien años de soledad) and its translations into Polish.”
As a specialist, my focus is on literature and translation studies. Additionally, I am keenly interested in socio-political and economic issues related to Spain and Latin American countries. I’m also passionate about the theory and practice of literary translation and the criticism of literary translations. Furthermore, I am interested in studying literary works and translation practices of specialized texts.
Reading is something I’ve always loved… books, the smell of their pages, I’ve always loved getting lost in stories. So, when I had my first course in literary translation at the University of Warsaw, I understood it was exactly what I wanted to do.
Translating literary texts is much more complicated than it sounds. It is a complex process that requires a lot of effort and a thorough knowledge of the language into which it will be translated and during which problems may arise.
Some problems are cultural; literature is strongly influenced by culture and history, so cultural references, puns, and metaphors can be difficult to translate. The translator must be familiar with the culture behind the original text to convey cultural nuances adequately.
Other hurdles are the author’s style and voice; the translator must be able to accurately and creatively capture and convey the author’s style and voice and find equivalent ways to express puns, metaphors, and other literary elements that may not have a direct translation. Not only must the meaning of the words be conveyed, but also the emotion and intent behind them.
There are also linguistic difficulties; differences in grammatical structure, vocabulary, and writing style between the source and target languages can present difficulties in finding an accurate and appropriate translation.
The subjective nature of literature is another problem we may encounter; literature is subjective, and readers may have different interpretations of a work. The translator must be aware of this and try to find a translation that is faithful to the spirit of the original work without imposing his or her own interpretation.
Translating literary texts is a fascinating and valuable adventure for translators and readers. It is also an excellent way to discover new authors, explore and understand different cultures, languages, and perspectives more deeply, and enrich your literary experience.
