About Me — Trish Arrowsmith
I guess the appropriate thing to do since I’m new here is to introduce myself. So, hi. I’m Trish Arrowsmith. To answer the most common question, sadly, I am not related to Steven Tyler. (I don’t know. I don’t understand the question either but 1 in 5 are guaranteed to ask).
I was born and raised in Connecticut and moved to Pennsylvania when I was twenty-nine. After living there for six years I realized it never felt like home. So, I did what made the most sense. I picked up and moved clear across the country to the desert. It was the best decision I ever made. Everything out here is designed to kill you and I’m happier than I’ve ever been. I’ve never believed that I had a spirit animal but after moving here, I learned I do have a spirit plant. The cactus. Why? Because from afar, they’re kind of pretty to look at but if you get too close, they’ll stab the shit out of you. That’s it. That’ s my personality summed up. I was made to live out here.
Why am I here?
My writing strengths are in shorter, more concise pieces but my passion is in writing novels. This gives me a reason to continue writing shorter pieces that I have thrown to the side the last few years. My short writing is focused mainly on erotica and argumentative essays. I love playing Devil’s Advocate in real life and in my writing, I’m able to argue for either side with no emotional attachment. It’s fun to see how many perspectives I can get from one subject. I’m always looking for reasons to write these pieces so if you have any suggestions or particular subjects you want to read about, feel free to let me know.
For my full length novels I stick to suspense/thrillers but am considering starting a cozy mystery series if I can decide on a solid setting. A bookstore or coffee shop would be my first choices but they are both overdone.
I just published my first novel in May and my second should be out by the end of the year. The publishing journey, although an interesting experience, was hard. And it only got harder after the book was out. I learned fast that marketing is not one of my strengths and I don’t enjoy any part of it.
Random facts about me:
- My two biggest passions in life are literacy and prisoner’s rights.
- I’m an animal lover. From kittens to snakes and everything in between. Except guinea pigs, they shouldn’t exist. Their squeal makes me cringe.
- I own a fire hydrant. I found out the hard way they don’t explode like they do in the movies. It was disappointing. And they’re expensive.
- I’m dissociative. Yes, it’s a mental illness. Yes, it’s a daily struggle. No, I wouldn’t, at this point in my life, want it to go away. I’ve been living with it for so long, if it disappeared I would feel empty, like a part of me was missing. It’s a little messed up if you think about it but I’ve learned to embrace it. It’s part of who I am.
- I have 4 degrees and I don’t use any of them. Included on the list are: Liberal Arts and Sciences, Economics, Sociology, and Behavioral Sciences.
