Writing was always my passion, though it wasn’t until two years ago that I did it consistently

I’ve debated doing an about me story for months, because after all, I’ve been telling readers on this platform snippets about myself for two years now. I’ve written some things that I’ve never told another living soul. The reason why I’ve chosen to put my bio into one place at this juncture is to make it easier for those who want to find me.

So, here it is.

I’ll be 52 in a week. Born and raised in New York City and still live in the city of my birth. I’m single. I don’t have children, though I am a cat mom. I’ve worked in the managed care industry for 21 years. I also identify as an introvert, though I am sociable, provided I have the energy.

However, those attributes describe only a fraction of what I’m about. I’ve never fit neatly into any societal or cultural box. For instance, I like hiking, an activity that I as a Black woman “shouldn’t” like at all. Many BIPOC regard hiking as a “white people” thing to do. I’m aware that the reason for this belief is insidious, that our oppressors denied our people access to hiking trails for decades until around 60 years ago. Yet, the expectation that only white people hike persists because many BIPOC don’t see people who look like us doing it. In the end, I don’t think that white people “own”…
