Who Am I

Heya World — I’m Wei Chun and I was born in the vibrant heart of Malaysia 🇲🇾 23 years ago. I’m interested in all things fintech and AI. Besides I’m also curious about different tastes and cultures in the world.

I love to travel and learn new things. Recently, I have been planning my next trip and trying to learn the German language.

On Reading

I enjoy reading books and articles that pique my curiosity and expand my understanding. My interests are wide-ranging, from exploring Van Gogh’s Art Pieces to understanding the nuances of love and life. I consume content that captures my interest, regardless of the topic.

This diverse pool of knowledge helps me connect different ideas and generate new ones. I also value exchanging thoughts on these topics with others to gain their perspectives.

On Writing

In most online communities, 90% of users are lurkers who never contribute, 9% of users contribute a little, and 1% of users account for almost all the action.

My personal take: we lack content curators in this modern world.

Stepping into adulthood often feels like navigating through uncharted waters. I find solace in journaling — my sanctuary where thoughts are transformed into words, and words into clarity.

Journaling has become more than just a hobby for me; it’s an essential practice that helps me maintain my mental and emotional equilibrium. By regularly documenting my thoughts, I not only track my personal growth but also discover unexpected insights and revelations. I make it a habit to write down my reflections, learn from them, and share these discoveries with the world on my blog.

I also like to curate things that I find interesting every week into a substack newsletter that I share with like-minded people.

On medium, I aim to write technical blogs with the learnings I got building side projects or at work.

Academic Ventures

I recently graduated from Monash University with a BS in Computer Science (Class of 2023). I spent 3 years at the university and I would say some of the best things happened there.

I did a little bit of research on the SOJA algorithm. I became the Teaching Assistant for a class on Theory of Computation. I also wrote a paper on engineering a next-gen annotation platform.

Professionally Speaking

By day, I’m a data engineer at MoneyLion, where I build and ship big data infrastructure to support the organization’s data needs. Think of it as the people behind the scenes that give you the power to build dashboards and reports in a timely manner.

Before that, I had experience in various fields such as software engineering and cybersecurity.

On a broader note, I am interested in distributed computing and how it can be used to speed up processing in databases. I am also deeply invested in system design and how each small component builds up the world around us.

What’s next

My goal is to inspire joy and provoke thoughtful conversations through my writings. Whether it’s an in-depth analysis or a light-hearted exploration, I would love to engage in a conversation with people.

Welcome to my corner of Medium and I hope my writing will make your time here meaningful!
