About Me — Yoofi Biney
Jack of All Trades
My full name is Teddy Yoofi Biney. If I had my way, I’d simply go by Yoofi Biney. That’s because, as a Ghanaian, the name “Teddy” feels out of place — like a polar bear in the Sahara. Yoofi is a Mfantse (also spelt Fante) rendition of the Akan name “Kofi.”
It’s a name given to Akan male children born on Friday. So you can tell the day I was born just by my middle name.
I’m a writer, poet, singer, songwriter, music educator, rhythm and lead guitarist, volunteer, entrepreneur, online marketer, music producer, and fitness enthusiast (AKA gym rat).
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and sociology from a Ghanaian public university. I take music very seriously, although I’m yet to earn a lot from it. So writing is a hobby I took too far, and marketing is how I pay the bills.
As for the gym, it’s where I shapeshift from a human to a full-blown rat. The feeling is indescribable. You may try it too. The tail and ears are the fun part.
I love reading. When I was a kid, I’d steal books. I’m not proud I did that, but that’s to tell you how much I loved to read. I love teaching music theory and writing songs.
I love volunteering. I join the Ghana Volunteer Program now and then, and I have volunteered with both Beyond the Pivot…
