Desirie Sykes, President and Founder of NESS Behavior Consulting and NESS Cares

As any parent of a child with special needs knows, maneuvering the public school system often means compromising on the quality of necessary services. School districts may not always provide the personalized care and consistency to help special needs students achieve their academic and social goals. This threatens to set students with special needs back in their learning processes: jeopardizing their futures and abilities to be independent.

That’s why I founded NESS Behavior Consulting in 2018, with the mission of filling that gap in care. Our clients do not have to depend solely on the school system when looking to improve upon the symptoms of their children’s special needs. We work with families to create an environment of positive and proactive learning at home.

We specialize in applying Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for youth with developmental disabilities that impede their learning ability.

The students we work with have a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), but intersections with other disorders make it necessary to be adaptable and well-rounded. Our mission is to educate families and school professionals on how to meet the needs of children with special needs through Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior.

About Desirie

I hold over ten years of experience in developmental disability services through the school system and residential programs.

When I realized that my child was still nonverbal at the age of two years old, I was afraid of having my child deal with the stigma and pain of being “labeled” as special needs without receiving proper services in turn. We had to undergo several rounds of speech therapy and learning evaluations just to begin the process of getting my child the care she needed.

But when I learned about ABA, I realized that achieving the milestones I wanted for my child was possible. The Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) were capable of administering robust and comprehensive special education, and ABA has shown incredible results.
