Apples, Carrots, and Peace
A Story of Horses
Last summer, I began working with horses. Cleaning their stalls, moving them around the barn, learning about them, feeding them apples and carrots and loving on them has been the most humbling and rewarding experience that is difficult for me to put into words. The physical labor is none like I’ve ever experienced and is hard work but the feeling of being around them is like no other. They are such peaceful animals; their eyes draw you in and it’s like they’re looking into your soul. Listening to them when they neigh and whinny, as if they are talking to each other from across the barn, is such a happy experience that fills me with pure joy. I call then “gentle giants.” No matter the day I’m having, I can go to the barn and then all is right with the world again.
